In order to raise awareness among public about implementation of rational use of drugs, this year ‘World Pharmacist Day’ celebrated with full fanfare at Jayamukhi College of Pharmacy. While addressing Principal Dr. S. Vasudeva Murthy given a call for appropriate implementation of rational use of medicines. In his communication reiterated to the students to take up pharmacovigilance program and prescription audit. A ralley was organized in Narsampet town to create awareness among public.
Dr. G . Anil Kumar in his address given a call for a reporting adverse drug reactions to the students of Institute. Program was well attended over 200 students of the students along with faculty members of the college.
On the eve of World Diabetes Day, the primary global awareness campaign focusing on diabetes mellitus was held on November 2019. As a part of this event Students and Staff participated in the Diabetes Health camp which has diabetes screening program held at Pavan Nursing Home, Narsampet on the behest of Dr. L. VidyaSagar.
The main aim of this program was to promote diabetescare, prevention and a cure worldwide.
This camp gave an insight on diabetes and human rights, diabetes and lifestyle, diabetes and obesity, diabetes in the disadvantaged and the vulnerable, and diabetes in children and adolescents.

The Jayamukhi College of Pharmacy, Narsampet, Warangal organized a two day national level seminar on NMR techniques and its applications in pharmaceutical sciences on 20th and 21st September 2019 with support of SERB. The Day one-session started with inauguration by chief guest Prof.M.Sarangapani, Dean, faculty of pharmaceutical sciences, Kakatiya University and key note speaker Prof.P.K.Madhu, Sr. Scientist, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Hyderabad. Prof.Y.Madhusudan Rao, Director, Vaagdevi group of pharmacy institutions was presided over the function.
Prof.M.Sarangapani while addressing the participants, discussed about fundamentals of NMR, role of the magnetic field effect on the spin of nucleus of proton and carbon, importance of the shift of signals in the surrounding environment of the NMR. He emphasized the need for students to involve in basic research and to collaborate with various national institutes for research and for identification of the new molecules from plant sources or from the biological sources. He also highlighted the various applications of the NMR technology in MRI scanning, apart from its main applications in pharmaceutical industry for identification of new drugs and study of metabolites.
In his inaugural address, Prof.Y.Madhusudan Rao , given call to the young budding pharmacists to utilize modern technology for the innovative drug delivery system and reiterated the use of NMR technology for drug profiling . He called participants to utilize the newer techniques in the NMR for the better healthcare to the system.
Students and teachers from different universities and educational institutes, few delegates from industry attended the event .As a convener, Dr.G.Hemalatha greeted the gathering on day one and overall two day program schedule was reviewed before the delegates. Dr. S Vasudeva Murthy, Principal given a call to the participants to use the technology to alleviate human suffering. The program graced by T.V.R.N. Reddy, Joint Secretary, he welcomed all the participants, he informed to utilize the two day seminar by the eminent speakers from different areas and apply in your research work for innovation of new molecules. Prof. P.K.Madhu, Sr. Scientist, TIFR, Hyderabad in his address highlighted about the significance of NMR in biophysics. He elaborately explained about protein folding, drug design, metabolonomics and structure-function-dynamics paradigm. As he was an eminent speaker from interdisciplinary field, in his session he talked about the versatile technology to find out the structure of macromolecules, metabolonomics, and characters of myriad molecules. The NMR used in scanning of human body. He explained the basics of NMR and fundamental properties like nuclear spins, how they change in magnetic field. He spoke on hardware aspects of NMR and solution state NMR. He talked about effects of TROSY, goldilocks tale in dipolar coupling, deuterium labeling effect on the sample resolution. He mainly emphasized the NMR in protein world, amino acid sequence & importance of 3D structure in protein function, discovery of protein, functions of protein and also discussed about macromolecular structure determination using NMR. He spoke on cause of Alzheimer’s disease due to damage of particular peptide in the brain. Dr. Madhu highlighted about the resolution of structure of β-amyloid. He has given clues how best we can reduce the toxicity in an individual afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. He also told that high pure samples can be obtained by crystallization & spoken the conformational dynamics of biomolecules in solutions
Dr.Udaykiran Marelli, Scientist, National Chemical Laboratories, Pune, Maharastra - equipped the participants with basics of NMR and sample preparations for forensic studies. He spoke about some drugs like Enoxaparin, a low molecular weight heparin and about galacto oligosaccharides & analysis of neutraceuticals. He explained the polymorphism in pharmaceuticals & enlightens the possible crystal variants of the compounds. He told about the effect of polymorphism on Ritonavir, the second polymorph has low water solubility & given NMR profiling of Naftopidil drug in salt form. He also highlighted about the role of NMR in forensic studies , while giving an example about smuggling of gold in the form of toothpaste and its identification process and how NMR helps in identifying military artilleries, vehicle accident tracing system and in forensic medicine
Day two sessions:Sudiptha Goswami, Bruker (India) Ltd , Kolkata-he given brief introduction on basics of NMR,1D & 2D NMR. He started with a short introduction to the NMR, different energy levels, intensity of magnetization, NMR resonance conditions and discussed Helmholtz coil design, RF pulse & T2 relaxation and chemical shifts. He detailed explained block diagram of NMR spectrometer, proton amplifier, BSMS, HPPR and finally he spoke about work station. Sudiptha Goswami also touched upon the role of NMR magnet in external magnetic field. He was also explained about the built up model of modern NMR spectrometer, role of super conducting coil. He said about the safety precautions to be taken in high magnetic field. About the lock channel understanding with respect to NMR was discussed and how lock field homogeneity works was explained. He was given hints for sample preparation, volume required, shigemi tube, buffers & salts and precautions to be taken, sample preparation without proton buffer and avoiding bubble & precipitates. Another important aspect explained about is how to maintain pH at lowest possible
Dr.K.Shirisha, Professor, Vaagdevi college of pharmacy, Hanamakonda, discussed about the basics of NMR like what is magnetic field, proton spin changes,spin –spin coupling, decoupling,etc. She explained the difference between 1D and 2D NMR spectra. She has spoken about the different techniques of 2D NMR i.e., COSY, TOCSY, HETCOR homonuclear &heteronucluear NMR spectra, plotting of 2D spectra and about contour plots and spectral interpretation.
Dr.(Prof.) Sridhar Babu, Principal, Shivani College of Pharmacy gave a lecture on DEPT NMR.DEPT –is a tool of ‘C’ peak assignments ,it is distortion less enhancement of polarization transfer ,double resonance pulse program that transfers polarization from an exited nucleus to another most commonly1H-13C. He explained difference between DEPT-90 & DEPT-135. By taking few examples spectral interpretation was discussed.
Dr.B.Srinivas, Asst. Prof. from NIT, Warangal talked about coupling constant-J & some fundamentals. He spoke on ease of analysis of the compound by using NMR. Role of NMR to see the impurity profile in drugs, importance of checking impurity profile in drugs and degradation products were briefed. He touched 1D and 2D plots and solid state NMR. Spectral interpretation by taking different pharmaceutical agents eg: Benzocaine(local anaesthetic),Aspirin(NSAID), Lidocaine and Procainamide(anti arrhythmics) was discussed.
Day two session ended with valedictory function, Prof.G. Achaiah, Department of Pharm. Chemistry , University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kakatiya University, Warangal and Director of IQAC cell, Kakatiya university as chief guest, Dr.B.Srinivas ,NIT, Warangalgl as guest of honour. Prof.G .Achaiah appreciated all the participants for utilizing this two day seminar on NMR and encouraged them to utilize and apply this knowledge in the research. Awareness Health Camp was conducted for school girls of 6th to 10th classes of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya. The day-long awareness programme was facilitated by Dr. Kadhiam Kavya (chairperson of Kadiam Foundation), Mr. A. Srivas (Lecturer of Kadiam Foundation) who are well experienced on the subject. The facilitators used Telugu and English languages simultaneously to convince the students more effectively. In addition, the facilitators used pictorial images (posters), participatory adult learning tools, and Menstrual Health Management and Hand-washing animated videos aiming for easy understanding by all age groups of students. The students were educated, sensitized and made aware on as follows:
In association with Excise Department of Narsampet, Warangal rural a rally for bringing the awareness among the youth and general masses against drugs addiction and abuse, was taken out from Narsampet on the call given by Government of Telangana on explicit use of drugs on 4th Aug, 2017. Students and faculty of Jayamukhi College of Pharmacy participated in rally in Narsampet creating awareness on drug abuse among people.
Students sported placards displaying messages aimed at creating awareness on the disastrous effect of intoxication from drugs on individual and society’s health and economy.
Consciousness was created about the ill-effects of substance abuse among the youth with this Rally.
